Policy on the Approach to Human Rights in the Workplace and ETI Code

Introduction

At Avocoop, our commitment to the land, to people and to communities is the foundation of how we work. Aware of the importance of knowing, respecting and protecting Human Rights in the workplace on the part of our employees, suppliers and contractors, we have created this Policy on the Approach to Human Rights in the Workplace and ETI Code.

This policy expresses Avocoop’s commitment to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and its relationship with the agricultural and commercial activity we carry out across each of our origins.

In creating it, Avocoop assumes the responsibility it bears towards its employees, suppliers and contractors in matters of Human Rights. To that end, the responsibilities and scope are described below.

Scope and field of application

The guidelines set out in this policy are the framework establishing how Avocoop addresses human rights and the ETI Code, based on the employment relationships the company maintains with its employees, suppliers and contractors.

It therefore applies to the employees, suppliers, contractors and members of the management body of Avocoop, to whom the company undertakes to make this policy known in a timely manner and whenever a change or review takes place.

Responsibilities

Responsibility for implementing and communicating the Policy on the Approach to Human Rights in the Workplace and ETI Code lies with the Human Resources and Purchasing departments, as well as with Avocoop’s Management, who shall ensure proper and strict compliance with the guidelines set out in this policy.

Accordingly, Avocoop sets out in concrete terms its responsibilities in matters of Human Rights and the ETI Code towards its employees, suppliers and contractors.

Commitment and principles of action

Avocoop undertakes to inform of, respect and publish all internationally recognised human rights and ETI Code principles set out in:

  • The International Bill of Human Rights of the United Nations, which comprises the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
  • The ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work.
  • The principles of the ETI Code (Ethical Trading Initiative).

Responsibility towards our employees, suppliers and contractors

At Avocoop we understand that people are our greatest and most valued asset and, therefore, one of our main responsibilities in matters of human rights. We grow calmly, caring for the land and for those who work it, creating stable employment and driving the development of rural communities across each of our origins.

For this reason, the pillars on which we build the development of our human capital are: respect for diversity, equal opportunities, merit, and non-discrimination on the grounds of skin colour, race, political or religious ideology, gender or any other circumstance.

To achieve these guidelines, Avocoop adopts and undertakes to promote the following basic principles, which determine its conduct in the workplace:

  • To require, by any written, verbal or electronic means, from all the company’s professionals and suppliers, strict respect for the human and labour rights recognised in the national and international legislation cited above in the course of their activity.
  • To reject child labour and forced or compulsory labour, and to respect freedom of association and collective bargaining, as set out in our Social Responsibility Policy.
  • To require its suppliers to comply with the ETI Code, which obliges them to promote actions and adopt the necessary measures within their organisation to: eliminate all forms or types of forced or compulsory labour; expressly reject the use of child labour; respect freedom of trade union association and the right to collective bargaining of their workers; reject all discriminatory practices in employment and occupation, treating their employees fairly, with dignity and respect; and pay their workers in accordance with applicable wage laws, including minimum wages, overtime and social benefits.
  • To implement appropriate measures should any violation of human rights be detected on its premises or those of its suppliers, in the terms provided for in the ETI Code.
  • To provide complaint and grievance mechanisms, with sufficient guarantees, to address possible cases of human rights violations that may be reported by individuals or organisations external to Avocoop, through: https://avocoop.com/en/help-us-improve/ / info@avocoop.com.
  • To foster a culture of respect for human rights and the ETI Code, and to raise awareness among its professionals on this matter, through training and information posted on the company’s notice boards, especially in those areas where the risk of rights violations may be higher.
